One Mission, Two Organizations

We are a group of passionate advocates dedicated to empowering clients with the knowledge and the ability to teach using the most effective and engaging classroom practices. Our approach is inclusive and applies to every student and skill level.

Our mission will be carried out by our two organizations:

Literacy How, Inc., a for-profit company established in 2009, builds on ten years of experience.

We continue the work of Early Reading Success, Mastering Reading Instruction, and Haskins Literacy Initiative, begun at Haskins Laboratories in 2000. We pursue promising new avenues to improve reading achievement through teaching excellence.

The Anne E. Fowler Institute, our non-profit arm, is named for our colleague and mentor. It will establish a center of teaching excellence.

Teachers will come to learn the best science-based instructional practices so that every student can reach her or his potential. The Institute will also focus on closing the literacy achievement gap between some low-income and minority children and their white, middle-class peers. It will serve as a model of inspiration, expectation, and achievement where educators, administrators, legislators, and parents will come to be informed about and experience its methods for success.
